A Study on the Condition ,of Dental, Health, for Elementary School Children. Mainly on Their Knowledge and Habits

Abstract
I investigated on the actual conditions of the knowledge and habits on the dental health for 400 elementary school children of both sexes. Subjects were chosen at -random from second and fifth grade at Syock Kyo in Cheongju. City .and Took Eee in Cheongweon Kun (county). After I made an analysis and evaluation on it, I reached the following conclusions:
1. The contraction percentage of dental caries is 55.75% (223 children out of 400), and that of city children and country children is 63% and;48.5% respectively. This shows that contraction percentage of city children is higher than that of country children, and the ratio of contraction on male to female is almost equal The contraction percentage of the lower-grade and- the higher grade are 44.39% and"55.5% respectively and it indicates than that of the higher grade is higher than. that of the lower one..
2. .The number of children who practice brushing their teeth is 124(31%o), and among them, 76 children (38%) are the country, children and 48- (34%). are city children. This number is only one third of total children.
.3. The number of children who have taken medical treatments is 96 (24%), and¢¥-among the children- who have dental caries only 71 children (31%) have had medical treatments.
4. The information or the knowledge about their dental health and habit form¡þation on .it is not enough partially due to the poor education on it at schools. According to the test that I made, 215, children (53.75%) are in extremely a poor, state in their knowledge of dental health, but city children are a little better than the country children about it. Hence, these results indicate that assigning professional personals to each school will be effective.
5. Since even the children who care about their oral hygiene do not put it into practice every day, we can see that they do not realize the importance ear-dental health.
As the case of dental caries issue common and explosive one f or the children who are at the age of attending elementary school, we should¢¥ realize that t it gives them a great hurt physically as well as mentally in their development. Therefore, it is necessary and important to assign nurses who can , take care of their health, aid to arrange dentists to visit schools so that they can take , a regular examination on their teethe in advance rather than treatments after diseases, However, what we need first is , appropriate budget for such school health services and furthermore, a nation-wide medical system that can help them prevent their, teeth from dental caries.
